Job Summary:
The Counseling Program Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the counseling program within the school. They will develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive counseling services to support student academic, personal, and career development. The Counseling Program Director will collaborate with school staff, parents, and community resources to ensure the provision of high-quality counseling services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop, implement, and evaluate a school counseling program that aligns with the school's mission and goals.
2. Provide leadership and supervision to the counseling staff, ensuring their adherence to ethical and professional standards.
3. Collaborate with school administrators to develop and revise counseling policies, procedures, and guidelines.
4. Coordinate counseling services and activities with other school departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to student support.
5. Conduct needs assessments and data analysis to identify student needs and inform program planning and improvement efforts.
6. Design and deliver counseling curriculum and interventions that address the academic, personal, and career development needs of students.
7. Provide individual and group counseling to students, addressing issues such as academic performance, behavior, mental health, and career exploration.
8. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to develop and implement interventions and support plans for students in need.
9. Conduct crisis intervention and provide immediate support to students and families during emergencies or critical incidents.
10. Plan and organize counseling-related events and workshops for students, parents, and staff.
11. Maintain accurate records and documentation of counseling services provided, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
12. Stay updated on current research, best practices, and legal requirements in school counseling and integrate them into program development and implementation.
13. Assist in the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of counseling staff.
14. Foster a positive and inclusive school climate that promotes student well-being, academic success, and social-emotional development.
15. Network and collaborate with external agencies, organizations, and resources to enhance counseling services and referral options for students.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Master's degree in Counseling or a related field.
2. Valid state certification or license as a school counselor.
3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in school counseling, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and best practices in a school setting.
5. Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, mental health issues, and career development.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish effective relationships with students, parents, staff, and external stakeholders.
7. Ability to lead and motivate a team of counseling professionals.
8. Proficiency in data analysis and using assessment tools to inform program planning and improvement.
9. Knowledge of legal and ethical standards related to school counseling, confidentiality, and student records.
10. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse student populations and families.
11. Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
12. Experience in crisis intervention and ability to provide immediate support during emergencies.
13. High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling sensitive information.
14. Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of counseling software and Microsoft Office Suite.
